Kat Gordon

Founder, 3% Conference

Kat Gordon is the founder of the 3% Conference, a movement to support creative leadership in advertising. The 3% Conference was founded back in 2012 based on learning the fact that only 3% of women were creative directors.

When buying a product or service, the decision is largely made by the woman. This learning in interesting because most of the advertisements were coming from a male perspective.

Kat talks about what a woman might discover when trying to enter the industry and talks through some of the challenges with tips on how to overcome.

How can we help change and shape the industry to be more equal? Listen to this amazing podcast to find out!

What you’ll learn
  • What is the 3% social movement and why does it matter
  • How women can play a larger role in advertising
  • Analyzing Super Bowl advertising

Kat Gordon has been called the “triple threat” of an entrepreneur, ad woman + marketing to women expert and was named One of 2013’s “Top 10 Women to Watch” in Advertising Age and one of “Forty Over 40” women disrupting the world in 2014. She is the visionary behind The 3% Conference. Started as a passion project to spotlight a huge business opportunity in advertising — the lack of female creative leadership and its impact on connecting with an overwhelmingly female marketplace — the 3% Conference has grown exponentially since its 2012 launch. In addition to overseeing all 3% activity – the conference, road shows, student scholarship, social community, blog and 3 Cheers Award, Kat consults with startups in Silicon Valley and is Founder and Creative Director at Maternal Instinct, a marketing to women agency.

I am a THINKER. I like to solve puzzles and crack codes. The fun part is finding a problem that needs to be solved and then doing it in a unique, smart and clever way. I am a WRITER. Expressing a vision, emotion or message to an audience is a privilege and one that should never be taken for granted. I am a NETWORKER. I believe everyone is here to help someone else. The more people you take the time to get to know is one person you can potentially help and perhaps if you’re lucky, can even help you someday. If nothing else, everyone brings something new into your life if only for a fleeting moment. I am CREATIVE. Organized chaos is my norm as I navigate my way through finding innovative ways to tackle projects. I’ve never been one to color inside the lines. I am a DOER. I like to get things done and expect that of others. I run a million miles a minute and that’s how I like it. I am a MULTI-TASKER. I usually have at least 10 different projects going at any given time. Variety is what makes life (and jobs) fun and interesting!
